We are right now in the lobby of the Lester Wing,
of the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art.
Museum of Art of the University of Oklahoma.
We've been very fortunate and lucky to have amazing gifts from generous donors...
from around the country and the state of Oklahoma.
And this is the reason you will see in this museum,
a very diversified collection which is the purpose of a university museum.
We have antiquity, we have Chinese art, we have African art,
we have a fantastic collection of Impressionist painting,
from the Weitzenhoffer family.
We have an amazing collection of Native American and Western American,
including the Adkins Collection.
We have a great collection or so of american painting,
from the 17th, 18th, and 19th century.
And it's a great resource for students just to research,
grab some culture, have some fun, and learn something while you are doing it.
At the end of this corridor right now.
There's a wall cutting, separating the new building from the old building.
Why?
Is because right now we are expanding again.
Above the old 1971 building, and we are building a very spacious and beautiful gallery for the Adkins Collection.
The Adkins Collection is the largest collection of Western and Native American art...
in private hand.
Which was given in fact in stewardship to the University of Oklahoma,
and the Philbrook Museum.
I think other people should visit the museum because, number one it's free fun.
They have really fun openings for students whenever we have a new exhibition.
And you get culturally well-rounded.
You get to see everything from across the country.
A museum is a place where people can come and open their mind to...
the rest of the world.
Open their minds to understanding tolerence.
And to be able to really understand what the world is about.
Really the museum is a tool.
For the whole university and for the community,
to have something they can learn something, they could challenge something,
the could talk about something, they could share,
something they could bring their family back.
And all of that is really at their disposal, all the time.
And please do come to the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, you are more than welcome.
