June 10, 2011 The 48th annual Polish Song Festival (KFPP), the largest and oldest pop music event in Poland is held June 9-10 in the southwestern city of Opole. Staged in the local, recently modernized open-air theater, KFPP is the most important music festival in Poland meant as a summary of yearly season of achievements of Polish song writers and performers. Established in 1963, its traditional patrons include Polish Public Television TVP. The only year the Festival did not happen was 1982 due to martial law in Poland. The festival will begin with a show entitled "Telehity" marking the 25th anniversary of a popular news program on Polish public TV - Teleexpress and featuring biggest stars of Polish music stage. Later in the day, the festival audience will have a chance to take part in a SuperEvening show consisting of three parts. During the SuperDebuts concert young up-and-coming singers will perform songs from the repertoire of one of the most popular Polish musician of 1960's - Krzysztof Kleczon on the 30th anniversary of his death. The audience will also see the SuperPremieres concert, in which prominent Polish musicians will perform their newest songs and the Superjedynki concert that will feature the winners of a vote by viewers of public television channel TVP 1 and users of the superjedynki.tvp.pl website. The best performers will walk away with Superjedynka awards in such categories as: album, band, artist and hit of the year. The second part of the night, entitled Kabareton, will feature a review of Poland's most popular cabaret acts. Saturday, the second day of the festival, will see a concert celebrating the 40th anniversary of Lato z Radiem - one of the most popular Polish radio program and a concert in honor of one of the greatest Polish artists of the Polish music stage - Ewa Demarczyk, marking her 70th birthday.
