Poland's Foreign Ministry Monday said it strongly condemned the "brutal quashing" of peaceful protests against the regime in its eastern neighbor Belarus on July 3.
Security forces detained 300 people during protests on Belarus' Independence Day, the Polish Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website.
"Once again we are witnessing the Belarusian regime employ a vast array of instruments of repression to suppress the activity of democratic forces: preventive arrests, detentions of journalists, the Internet blockade and the use of tear gas," the Polish Foreign Ministry added.
A 10-day jail sentence handed out to journalist Igor Bancer, an activist from the Association of Poles in Belarus, an organization that is not recognized by President Alexander Lukashenko's regime, "only confirms how much the authorities fear freedom of speech," the Polish Foreign Ministry statement added.
