June 30, 2011 Thousands of workers were expected to take to the streets of central Warsaw Thursday in a protest organized by the Solidarity trade union calling for an increase in the minumum wage and secure jobs for young people. Solidarity press spokesman Wojciech Gomułka said,"This is intended to be a colorful and highly visible demonstration. It will take place the day before Poland takes over the EU presidency." He added that the union wanted to bring Polish social problems such as high prices, low pay and unemployment among young people to the attention of the Polish government and of other EU countries. The demonstration was expected to cause traffic problems. Source: The Warsaw Voice
