A lot of times the people that are sitting
across being interviewed have actually had
more coaching and more training on how to
be a good interview than the person conducting
the interview. So, know that a small business
owners are sometimes at a disadvantage. Now,
the good interview questions, I really want
you to look at, or delve into the history
of, how that person was in the past. Too many
times we ask how would you handle this situation?
How would you handle that situation? Because
you know that's what the job is going to entail.
I would encourage you, instead of asking of
how would you handle it in the future, to
look and have them tell you a history of how
they've done it in the past. Such as, tell
me about a time when you were busy doing detail
work and the phone kept ringing. How did you
handle that? And what happened? Or, another
one would be, tell me about a time when you
couldn't quite meet the deadlines and what
was the situation and how did you resolve
it? Another interview question, might be,
tell me about a time when there was someone
in the office that you didn't think someone
was doing their job well. How did you handle
it? So all these are to explore how this person
has been in an office environment in the past.
And listen carefully to the answers and if
there's anything that tweeks your interest
ask another question around it. And then go
another one deeper.
